Feldspar Mineral

Potash Feldspar / Soda Feldspar

Description

The name of "Feldspar" refers to group of Aluminium Silicate of Potassium, Sodium and Calcium. Soda and Potash Feldspars are differentiated by the ratio of Potassium and Sodium in them.

RMCL's Feldspar is a cornerstone mineral for industries that require durability, thermal resistance, and cost-effective production.

RMCL's Feldspars are generally light-coloured, including Snow White, Pink, Tan, Green, or Gray. The colour varies due to impurities within the crystal structure. Feldspar is the mineral that gives granite its Pink, Green or Gray colour.

Key Highlights

  • Chemical Stability – Non-toxic, safe, and stable under extreme conditions.
  • Excellent Fluxing Agent – Lowers melting temperature in ceramics and glass.
  • High Hardness & Durability – Adds strength and resistance in end products.
  • Multiple Varieties – Available as Potash Feldspar, Soda Feldspar, and Lime Feldspar.

Core Applications

  • Abrasives – Adds hardness in the production of scouring powders and grinding wheels.
  • Ceramics & Porcelain – Essential in the manufacture of tiles, sanitaryware, and tableware.
  • Electrodes & Welding – Provides fluxing action in welding rod coatings.
  • Fillers & Extenders – Used in paints, plastics, and rubber for durability and cost efficiency.

  • Sanitary Ware – The use of feldspar within vitreous ceramic bodies is used to facilitate the optimization process.

Extended Applications

  • Construction Materials – Adds strength to cement and concrete formulations.
  • Earth Sciences and Archaeology – Feldspars are used for K-Ar dating, argon-argon dating, thermo luminescence and optical dating.
  • Enamels & Glazes – Enhances smoothness, gloss, and appearance in surface coatings.
  • Gemstones & Decorative Uses – Some feldspars like Moonstone and Labradorite are used in jewelry.
  • Geopolymers & Refractories – Used in specialty applications for heat resistance.
  • Plastics and Rubber Industry – Used as fillers and extenders for their beneficial properties of good dispersibility, high chemical inertness, stable pH, high resistance to abrasion, low viscosity at high filler loading, interesting refractive index and resistance to frosting.
  • Soil Conditioning – Improves potassium content in certain agricultural applications.
  • Surface Coating – Feldspar assists the enamel composition, assuring the absence of defects and the neatness of the end product.
  • Tableware – Feldspar gives a good fusibility for a product without defects.
